The McMaster University Rowing Club has been a part of the McMaster sports community in its current form for over 20 years. Regattas occur during the fall season, which starts at the end of August and runs until the beginning of November. McMaster Rowing practices out of Leander Boat Club during the fall, and indoor winter season, as well as the High-Performance Gym on campus during the winter season for team weight training. The commute for students is a 10-minute drive or a 20-minute bike ride from campus. During the Fall season, the team never misses a moment on the water, training six mornings a week with some on-land or water sessions in the evenings as well.
Our energetic and diverse team consists of Varsity, Junior-Varsity, and Novice programs. The team competes in numerous regattas including Head of the Trent, the OUA Championships, the Canadian University Rowing Championships, and more. McMaster is one of the smallest teams in the OUA; the focus on a fleet of high-performing crews has led to several accomplishments. Specifically, at OUA’s this past Fall season (2021) McMaster won a silver in the Men’s Single and a Bronze in the Lightweight Men’s 4+. The team saw 90% of crews reaching the A final with four boats finishing just off the podium in 4th place. The Men’s Team placed 5th and the Women’s 8th overall, both with no eights entered.
Being student-run, McMaster Rowing emphasizes community with additional events outside of practice. This ranges from fun fundraisers and banquets to volunteering within the McMaster community. These events are organized by the student-run executive team.
