Competitive Programs.

Find a program right for you.

Leander Boat Club offers a full-year competitive program at the Junior (U17 & U19), Senior (U23 & Open) and Masters levels. From winter training and indoor erg competitions (November – March), to spring training and racing (April – May), to the summer 2000m racing circuit (June – August), to the fall head racing scene (September – October), LBC offers a well-rounded program for any level of competitive club athlete.

Each program’s success rests on providing individualized training programs that complement the wider full-team training, ensuring that athletes receive training and racing opportunities appropriate to their fitness and skill levels, experience, and short-term and long-term goals in the sport of rowing.

Junior.

Under 19 and Under 17

Junior Competitive Rowing at Leander is split into two age categories. Junior A is for any athlete who is 18 years of age or younger on December 31st of this year. Junior B is for any athlete who is 16 years of age or younger on December 31st of this year.

The junior program is structured around learning to train effectively, develop solid fundamental technical skills, learn the discipline of competitive rowing and ultimately learn to start winning races. Our ultimate goal is to develop crews to win Royal Canadian Henley, teach athletes to meet the provincial carding standards and to propel our athletes towards competitive University rowing and the Canadian National Team.

The junior program primarily races in Southern Ontario within the Central Ontario Rowing Association circuit, as well as at the provincial championships and Henley. There are opportunities for crews to venture further for racing opportunities based on performance with target regattas including U.S. Elite Nationals, Independence Day Regatta (Philadelphia), Royal Henley (London, England), National Rowing Championships and more.

Senior.

Senior and Under 23

Senior competitive rowing at Leander is a program built to elevate athletes to the highest level of competition.  The program is designed with students and full time workers in mind, with rigorous and highly structured primary training sessions optimizing the progress made for the time invested.

Our senior rowers will learn to fine tune training, track racing progress, analyze performance and adapt training routines to meet specific goals. Through training and developing together, senior rowers will be pushed to meet provincial carding standards, earn spots on Canadian University teams and reach the Canadian National Team.

The senior program primarily races in Southern Ontario within the Central Ontario Rowing Association circuit, as well as at the provincial championships and Henley. There is a strong emphasis for crews to stick together and target international regattas.
